A New Age for the Hobbits
Hobbit Survival
What do we mean by survival? The Hobbits are fighting against
extinction. The immortals in the game can easily choose to no longer
make a race of beings simply because they are not active enough or
because they feel like doing it. So we as Hobbits must become more
noticed, heard more on race chat, talked about in other nations, etc.
Role plays must be created to capture the attention of all of the role
playing world. However it is not in the interest of the Hobbits to kill
races of people, OR destroy other nations for our gain. Instead we wish
to expand our territory, grow new and useful crops, and allow room for
our nation to grow.
Organizations
To help bring about this new age, two organizations are being formed:
The Hobbit Secret Service and the Hobbit Foreign Legion. A brief
description of each follows: please see the more detailed descriptions
later in this document. A third organization: A Hobbit Army, may be
formed at some time in the future. But at this time the Hobbits do not
have enough population to support a regular Army, hence the need for the
Secret Service and Legion.
Secret Service
The
Hobbit Secret Service is an organization within
the Hobbit Nation, and it's members consist of Hobbits only.
This organization is led by General Fiebin, and serves the Thain.
Foreign Legion
The
Hobbit Foreign Legion is an organization of
NON-Hobbits.
This organization is led by Commander Rhyaad, and serves the Thain.
The Foreign Legion protects the Hobbits in their new expansions,
and does other hired tasks for the Thain.
Symbols
Both the Secret Service and the Foreign Legion will have symbols by
which they are known to each other. The Secret Service uses the symbol
of a golden S (in text
<S> or
<s>) and the Foreign Legion uses the
symbol of the Holly Leaf. represented in text by
</>. For more details,
see the
Symbols section at the end of this document.
Language
There will be some language developed for the Hobbit nation.
It will not be nearly as extensive as the elves, however.
In fact some of the language is in secret signals.
Hobbit Foreign Legion
What Is It ?
What is the Hobbit Foreign Legion ? A portable military that consists
of non-Hobbits, mercenaries who fight together in a group, or on brief
occasions individually, to further the interests of the Hobbit Nation.
To do the job right their number-one priority is to protect the Thain,
who hired them. Just as important is the matter of secrecy. To give away
the secrets of the fighting force, timing, battle areas or targets,
means that before one arrow has been shot the war has already been lost.
Secrets are valuable to any nation or group of people, more then gold.
The very strategy that they use can be used against them should word get
out indiscriminately. This is why even in a joke the Hobbit foreign
legion must not be mentioned, nor rumors spread about the nation they
represent. These fighters do not work for a set salary. Instead they are
paid individually with gold, or equipment according to the missions they
accomplish. This way those that work hard and spend more time are giving
others the incentive to work hard themselves, instead of allowing
laziness, which could happen if the group were to be paid all at once as
a whole. To make sure their solidarity remains intact, the Thain may
have the rewards given to the Foreign Legion Commander, Rhyaad, to
distribute when a good job is done, hence to provide loyalty
to their leader.
The Name
What do we mean by "Hobbit Foreign Legion" ? If you take out
the word Hobbit and say "Foreign Legion" then perhaps it can be better
understood that these are warriors who are from different nations,
classes, etc., who work together to protect the person, nation or group
they are hired to protect. However it is of the utmost importance that
the Foreign Legion only work for one nation at a time. Right now they
are working for the Hobbits, hence the name the Hobbit Foreign Legion.
Mobility
Why must the Hobbit Foreign nation be mobile? To keep them safe,
to be able to transport their supplies and lodgings using camouflage
techniques so that they can protect a vulnerable area, and move before
they are caught. If they stay to long in once place they too may become
a target.
Hobbit Expansion
Some of the things the Foreign Legion will do is move supplies.
They will
Camp out to protect hobbits who are attempting to travel to their new
destination. Please note: in no way is the Hobbit nation abandoning the
burrows. However to prevent overcrowding and unsanitary conditions, as
well as to make them less vulnerable to being overcome by another
nation, it is important that a new settlement of Hobbits be created. The
foreign legion may help in setting up the structures, because the
Hobbits in expanding may have to enter new terrain, even use a new kind
of house or a new kind of crop. Frequently the Thain will visit this
settlement to see that all is well. The Hobbit Foreign Legion will
accompany her there.
Members
What kind of people should the Legion consist of?
Thieves, vampires, rangers, warriors, augurers, fathomers, and druids;
at least one mage and one cleric. No paladins, because this is not an
issue of religion; nor Nephandis who must be evil. Members can belong
to a guild or order, however they must be willing log-on at least twice
a month to receive orders from their commander and once a month complete
a task for the Legion. Of course we hope that some may be able to spend
more time.
Those we do not want to recruit are ones who are so distrustful that
they will not even follow someone to talk about it, or someone so
negative that they would say, "it will never work." We also want to
avoid the immature, and those who have great difficulty keeping secrets.
Right now we think the Hobbit Foreign Legion can consist of anywhere
from 6 to 12 people due to the fact that people will be able to log on
at different times.
Hobbit Secret Service
What is the difference between the Hobbit Secret Service
and the Hobbit foreign legion ?
The Hobbit Secret Service contains only Hobbits (Halflings).
They may spy on other nations, and defend the burrows from evil.
They will live in the burrows. They will keep order in the burrows,
hunt down those who commit treason, warn about invaders (yes there is a
yell against tall people, but nothing is said when pixies invade.) Our
general is Fiebin, but this military is subject to the will of the
Thain.
Symbols
Both the Secret Service and the Foreign Legion will have special symbols
by which they are known to each other. The Secret Service uses the
symbol of a golden S shape, represented in text by <S>. The Foreign
Legion uses the symbol of the Holly Leaf, represented in text by </>.
Members of both organizations are required to add this symbology to
their characters in the following manner:
